Allexa Bonner Essays (472 words) - Epistolary Novels,
Allexa Bonner English 3745 Response #10 11/2/2015 Code Name Verity While I think Code Name Verity would appeal more readily to an adult audience it is, at its core, a tale for young adults. Not only is it an informative and fascinating description of the roles many women were given during WW II, it is the exploration of the strength and importance of the human spirit to withstand the most extreme of circumstances for those you love. This is a young adult novel built around female power and friendship. Through Queenie's writingsfirst on hotel stationery, then desperate scrawls on the prescription forms of a Jewish doctor, and on recipe cardswe are shown the thriving friendship of two girls. Queenie is the aristocrat with pretty nails that knows nothing of planes and has no sense of direction; she is headstrong and resilient to the end. Maddie , on the other-hand, is a commoner with an extensive knowledge and love for flying and mechanics; she is fierce, ethical, and loyal. "It's like being in love, discovering your best friend" ( 68). These two were meant to complement one another, and together they make the perfect team. They are what make Code Name Verity a young adult novel; they are the embodiment of loyalty, love, and bravery. The second part changes to Maddie 's point of view after her plane has crashed behind enemy lines. This is when we see that Queenie 's story has been more than truthful and their admiration for one another is very real. They realest lov e for a friend is the only thing that helps Maddie survive her time surrounded by danger. Likewise, Queenie rather casually reveals incidents of her torture during interrogation s --a system that conveys the horror , fear, and cruelty she faces wi thout the explicit details as long as she can remember Maddie within its pages. Of course this novel is an oddity within its genre. Given its environment it is quite serious, violent, and deadlyall of which could make it too disturbing for a young audience. Also, there is no dreamy romantic aspect , which is somehow required for a YA novel. Instead, Code Name Verity is about female camaraderie . It isn't just about romantic love. Maddie and Queenie, instantly click and become best friends. Maddie admires Queenie's daring personality and Queenie sees Maddie as an artist that undercuts the ugliness of war. The characteristics of a young adult novel are still present even though the characters are in their early twenties. The language is also relative to that of a young adult. It is simple and fairly humorous. I feel like this is why Code Name Verity is marked as a YA novelit's familiarity and intricate simplicity. Work Cited Wein , Elizabeth. Code Name Verity. The Nominative Case - Learning Latin
The Nominative Case - Learning Latin In Latin (and many other languages) the Nominative Case (cà sus nÃ
minà tà «vus) is the subject case. There is nothing very tricky about it- that simply means that the Nominative form is what is used in a given sentence as a subject. When you look up a noun (in Latin noun is nÃ
men which is traditionally defined as a part of speech that names persons, places or things) in a Latin-English dictionary, the first form listed is the Nominative Singular. The same is true of pronouns, which stand in place of nouns and adjectives (modifiers of nouns and pronouns), both of which are also subject to declension. In English, some words are only used in the plural, but these are few and far between. The same is true in Latin. For the vast majority of Latin nouns, the first form you see in the dictionary is the Nominative Singular, followed by an ending for the genitive, and the gender of the noun. (Note: What you see following the initial word is slightly different for adjectives and pronouns.) Nominative Singular Example: Puella (1) Dictionary form: Puella, : The girl is good - Puella bona est. Nominative Plural and Paradigms As is true for the other cases, the Nominative Case can be used in both the singular and the plural. For puella, that plural is puellae. Traditionally, paradigms put the Nominative Case at the top. In most paradigms, the singulars are in the left column and the plurals in the right, so the Nominative Plural is the top right Latin word. Nominative Case Abbreviation Nominative is usually abbreviated Nom or NOM. Since there is no other case beginning with an n, it can be abbreviated N. Note: Neuter is also abbreviated n, but neuter is not a case, so there is no reason to be confused. Nominative Forms of Adjectives Just as the dictionary form of the noun is the Nominative Singular, so it is also for the adjectival form. Usually, the adjectives have a Nominative Singular masculine followed by either feminine and then neuter, or just neuter in words where the masculine is also the feminine form. Compare:(3) Noun: puella, -ae girl(4) Adjective: bonus, -a, um good This adjective dictionary-style entry shows that the masculine singular of the Nominative Case is bonus. The feminine singular of the Nominative Case is bona as was shown in the example about the girl (puella bona est.) An example of a third declension adjective showing the masculine/feminine form and the neuter is: (5) Finalis, -e - final Nominative With To Be Verbs If you were to use the sentence The girl is a pirate, both the words for girl and pirate would be nouns in the Nominative Singular. That sentence would be puella pirata est. Pirate is a predicate nominative. The actual sentence was puella bona est where both the noun for girl, puella, and the adjective for good, bona, were in the Nominative Singular. Good is a predicate adjective. The Analysis of the Recent Microsoft's Acquisition of Skype Research Paper
The Analysis of the Recent Microsoft's Acquisition of Skype - Research Paper Example Acquisition is also used as a strategic tool for entering a foreign market, when other methods for achieving the specific target are not available (Coffey et al. 2001, p.52). In the above context, acquisition can highly enhance the organizational performance, under the terms that all its phases are carefully monitored; the readiness of the buyer to acquire an organization, with all the consequences of such initiative, needs to be evaluated in advance. The level of success of acquisition, as described above, is high and it is for this reason that managers of organizations worldwide prefer the specific strategy. In any case, the use of acquisition for covering various organizational needs to meet specific requirements: if the cost of the process is estimated to be significantly higher from the expected benefits, then another strategy of this type would be preferred (Frankel 2005). Moreover, if the acquired firm is of different culture/ industry, then time would be required for aligning the aims of the two organizations. Under certain terms, the acquired company cannot support the activities of the new owner ââ¬â probably because the cultural or operational differences between the two firms are so high that acquisition would not benefit the company that initiated the above process. In accordance with Darby (2006) the successful completion of an acquisition process requires that accurate information are exchanged between the buyer and the seller in order for the assets of the acquired company to be effectively managed. Moreover, Coffey et al. (2001) note that every acquisition plan need to be carefully in advance regarding its costs; it is explained that if not all costs are estimated with accuracy - reference is made to the ââ¬Ëpurchase costs, administrative costs and integration costsââ¬â¢ (Coffey et al. 2001, p.52) ââ¬â then the process is likely to fail, in the short or the long term. From a similar point of view, Rock et al. (1994) noted that the key target of an acquisition should be ââ¬Ëthe creation of a strategic advantageââ¬â¢ (Rock et al. 1994, p.5), meaning that the specific process would help the firm to improve its position towards its competitors. Particular emphasis is also given on the successful integration of the acquired company within the business entity of the buyer (Rock et al. 1994, p.5). The decision of Microsoft to acquire Skype would be evaluated by referring to the issues discussed above. Microsoft is a firm well established in the global market; in fact the organization is considered as one of the key competitors in the software industry ââ¬â along with Apple (Yahoo Finance, 2011). The tools that Microsoft had already developed in regard to the direct ââ¬â online communication, such as the Live Messenger and Xbox & Kinect, have performed quite well in the global market. However, still the firm did not have the control of the market, regarding products of such characteristics. Apple with a series of products/ software of advanced technology, such as iPhone and iMessage, had managed to get an important share of the market (Yahoo Finance 2011, Huo 2011). In the above context, the acquisition of Skype would offer to Microsoft a key strategic advantage towards its competitors ââ¬â especially Apple; such perspective is among the main causes of acquisition as a business strategy, as explained above (Microsoft News Center 2011). At the next level, Microsoft is a firm quite powerful, in terms of funds available for the

Evaluation of Anger Management Group Research Paper
Evaluation of Anger Management Group - Research Paper Example The dependent variables that the study will use as a measure of finding out the effectiveness of the group management efforts in the evaluation will include three independent variables gender, age, and level of education and the dependent variables will be the training sessions attended by the survey participants. Each variable will be measured using nominal for gender, scale for age, ordinal for the level of education, and scale for training sessions to provide a basis for the relation of independent variables to the dependent variable and allow for the formation of a conclusion on the effectiveness of the intervention on management of anger. The study will make use of Violent Intentions-Teen Conflict Survey (Pre/post Test and L3) for the collection of data on the anger management groups from the respondents that will allow the generation of a conclusion on the effectiveness of the group in meeting its goals of managing anger (Dahlberg, et al., 2005). The researcher will provide the survey to the respondents and a copied returned during the session. The survey used by other studies in the past to measure intentions to use nonviolent strategies to control anger and conflict. Pre/Posttest measure strengths include allowing for the versatility of the collection of information, it is simply allowing for simple analysis of the data, providing a basis for comparison, and allows for flexibility in the use of control groups depending on the needs of the research. The main weakness of the measure is that the clients would remember their answer if there is no duration between the pre/posttest. Another weakness of pre/posttest is th e possibility of affecting the results resulting in a negative impact on the external validity of the research.

Charles taze russell
Charles taze russell Introduction Charles Taze Russell, an American entrepreneur-turned-minister in 1897 had made an early description of globalization. Economists and other social scientists used globalization term during 1960s. (Wikipedia) The use of globalization term was widely used during the half of 1980s. There are numerous people who tried to come up with the definitions of globalization at that time. Globalization is the transactional processes and domestic structures of economy, politics, culture, and social. Besides, usually globalization specifically refers to economic globalization. Economic globalization defined by national economies into international economies. International trade, investment by foreigners, capital flows, migration of nation or foreigners, and the spreading of technology are some of the examples of international economy. Malaysia as one of the countries of Southeast Asian also undergoes the process of globalization. Furthermore, globalization gives effect on Malaysia in economy, polit ical, social and culture. In 1970s, Bumiputera run the Malaysian firms and enterprises by 35 percent. This is one of the implementation aspects of New Economic Policy (NEP). In addition, Malaysias economy has successfully narrowed the gap of income disparity between Bumiputera and other races. Other than that, since 1989, 8% of consistent economic growth was recorded. 9.2% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew in 1995. During the first quarter of 1996, the growth rate falls to 8%. In the middle of 1997, Malaysia have seriously been attack by tremendous drop of currency that give impact on countrys growth of exportation helps Malaysia recover from recession period. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad during his career as Prime Minister announced the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) to transform the economic from a production-based economy to a knowledge-based economy (K-economy). Thus, Malaysia undergoes globalization due to the economic expansion although received the recession period and successfully recovered. In Malaysia, prime minister should be a member and have the self-assured of House of Representatives. Parliamentary democracy is used in Malaysia to attain the globalization in developing the country with the federal constitutional monarchy. In operating the government, prime minister must be highly responsible to make the political environment in Malaysia to be stable. Due to the political stable, Malaysia has made a good relationship with United States and Europe even in the Asian region, South Korea, China, and Japan. Government in Malaysia, encourage foreigns investment in manufacturing industries. Thus, nations can get income as an employee to the industries. Since Malaysia gained its independence, our nations have made globalization in political. Political has successfully lower down the poverty in the rural area. Rural development was taken placed since 1965 where budgets were largest allocated to the rural area. Hence, political that are stable is important in globalization o f a country. Educational system in Malaysia has undergoes many changes of reviews and curricular activities to gain high right mentality and good attitudes of students. In order to achieve that, professors, lecturers, and teachers were recommended to find alternative to achieve this goal. Family, entertainment media, government political, and communities play an important role to mould the competitive, good moral attitudes, and more independent students. Malaysia government have make strategies on educational system to support Bumiputera to become an intellectual person. Government produced Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM), universities of science and technology based, and sponsorship for bright students. Furthermore, developing technologies is also one of the Malaysia aims. This aims has contribute the increase of foreigners investment. Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) is providing capital to Malaysian and foreign companies that are interested in investing in Malaysia. So, educ ational and developing technologies are the aspects of social globalization. Malaysia is comprises of West and East Malaysia. West Malaysia can also be known as Peninsular Malaysia consists of 60% of Malay, 25% of Chinese, and 10% of Indian population. Likewise, East Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak consist of Chinese, and Ibans. Islam is the national religion of Malaysia because nearly all Malays are Muslims. Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) is the official language of this country. But in the legal system, English language is used as communication. Mandarin, Tamil and other regional ethnics languages also used by nations of Malaysia. Although Malaysia has many cultures, all the races live in harmony and peaceful among each other. This indicator makes other countries interested in investing in Malaysia. Besides, the using of English language in trading makes it easier to foreign investment. Thus, globalization in cultures of Malaysia also makes Malaysia to be a well-known country.

Quantum Teleportation Essay -- quantum physics teleport
Quantum Teleportation is one of the newest areas of study in the field of quantum physics. It is the stuff of science fiction, which is fast becoming reality, where solid objects can be moved vast distances instantly. It has been the subject of books and movies for years but it wasnââ¬â¢t until recently that physicists at IBMââ¬â¢s laboratories made it a reality. The ideas that formed the basis of these experiments came about from previous research by scientists such as Albert Einstein and Heisenberg. This essay will explore the research done on this subject, the theories behind it, and the possible applications. Quantum teleportation is the idea that transporting matter can be achieved instantaneously by taking advantage of certain aspects of quantum physics. It is not possible to actually transport the matter, but rather, the properties of the object being transported can be applied to matter in a separate location. This newly created object is identical to the original down to the state of the individual atoms, and so is in effect the same object. The original object loses its properties during the process and is, in effect, destroyed. This takes advantage of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlation (Quantum), also referred to as entanglement. When two particles are entangled they take on properties identical to each other regardless of separation. This means that if something alters one of the entangled pair it affects the other in the exact same manner. In order to transport something we have to start with one of these entangled pairs. One particle at the source location and one at the location we want to transport the new object to. We then take a third particle, which is what will be transported, and measure it in relation ... ... in the field of computing. Because computers operate on a binary system it is possible that individual quanta cold be used to store information. This is possible because quanta can be in two states, horizontal and vertical. Using quantum teleportation information can instantly be sent from one point to another. An example of quantum computing could be if a person had to search a dorm for a specific item. Normally the person would have to go to every door in turn and look inside but if this were a quantum computer doing the searching it could look in every room at the same time.
